ABOUT THE QUARTET
The Cardinal Quartet is a newly formed UK ensemble made up of friends brought together by the 2017 Verbier Festival. Members Theodor Küng, Mary Brace, Jill Valentine and Raphael Lang hail from Switzerland, Australia, France and the United States, but all call London home. Individually the Cardinal Quartet’s members have received accolades from the Royal Academy of Music, Cambridge University, Rice University and the silver medal at the MTNA National Chamber Music Competition (USA), and featured as soloists with the National Repertory Orchestra (USA), Ensemble Eroica, Silk Street Sinfonia (UK) and the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra, among others.
The Cardinals perform regularly in London and around the UK, with recent highlights including concerts at St James Piccadilly and a trip to Cambridge for a joint advent service & chamber music recital with Clare College Choir. The group looks forward to more concerts, competitions, tours, and general musical shenanigans in 2019.
The quartet's members all share an abiding passion for the string quartet repertoire (although as this encompasses such a vast breadth of music they seldom agree on which composer to focus on next!) and enjoy sharing this passion with audiences everywhere—when their busy orchestral careers permit. Come along to one of our upcoming concerts to share in the fun!
